Course: A Comprehensive Introduction to Participatory Photography
Dates: 2nd – 6th November 2026
Online group sessions: 2pm – 6pm UK time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, independent learning sessions Tuesday and Thursday. This suits attendees from time zones spanning UK, Western Europe, and the US.
About this course: This training course offers a practical and comprehensive introduction into designing and delivering a participatory photography project or activity, with a specific emphasis on safeguarding, ethical approaches, and workshop design. It’s a perfect starting point for anybody who might be new to concepts relating to participatory photography, or those with a specific project they are wanting to develop.
The curriculum: The course is spread over five days, with three online group sessions, accompanied by independent learning inbetween. It covers the following themes:
Time commitment:
There is approximately an hour of pre-engagement activities prior to the course commencing. Group sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday last around four hours, and include regular breaks. We recommend allocating at least half a day for the independent learning modules on the Tuesday and Thursday. The post-course evaluation should only take about ten minutes.

The course will be delivered over 3 online group sessions using Zoom, which will take place within over a one week period. The training will also incorporate independent learning in between each live session, with these modules taking around half a day.
